I & A

I&A, Irrigation and aspiration, cannot be overlooked as a critical step in phaco surgery. Sometimes, residual cortical material removal following PE can be challenging, because
inattentive I&A can lead to posterior capsular rupture. Understanding and following the basic principles and techniques of I&A will help avoid such complications as well as enable the surgeon to use a structured approach and allow for safe and efficient evacuation of remaining cortex.
